Tarrant County confirms 19 more coronavirus cases, bringing total to 90

Tarrant County officials reported 19 new cases of the coronavirus on Wednesday, continuing a surge in confirmed cases across the county and bringing the total number of infected to 90.

The announcement came as neighboring Dallas County announced 78 additional coronavirus cases, its largest single-day increase to date.

The new cases in Tarrant County included seven in Fort Worth News, which now has 31 cases, according to the county department of health. There have been 16 cases in Arlington, including the county’s only death, as well as seven cases in Mansfield and five cases in Colleyville.

The first Westlake case was reported on Wednesday.

Tarrant County officials have announced new cases daily, including the 14 new cases that were announced on Tuesday.

The large majority of cases — about 51 percent — were transmitted during travel, press Release Distribution News while around 6 percent came from a known community source and around 23 percent came from an unknown community source, according to the county health department.

The county hasn’t been releasing the ages of coronavirus patients.

Stay-at-home orders are in effect in Tarrant, Dallas and other North Texas counties in an effort to control the spread of COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus.
