Fort Worth ISD closes all schools ‘until further notice’ due to coronavirus’ spread

Fort Worth school district Superintendent Kent Scribner announced Tuesday that schools will remain closed and students will learn from home until further notice.

“All schools will remain closed until we believe we can safely bring students back to school buildings for in-person teaching and learning and other school-related activities,” Fort Worth Latest News
Scribner said in a statement posted to Fort Worth ISD’s website.

The news release notes that the decision was made in alignment with the City of Fort Worth’s Disaster Restrictions, which are in place through May 15.

Clint Bond, a spokesman for Fort Worth ISD, wrote in an email Tuesday that if there is a continuation of “until further notice” it will be issued closer to May 15.

According to the district’s website, it is also canceling all activities through that time frame, including travel for adults and students, Press Release Distribution Service athletic events, UIL competitions and athletic strength conditioning sessions. In the meantime, curriculum is being developed for students to continue to learn online as well as through materials they can soon pick up where lunches are served.The district had previously announced that schools would be closed for at least two weeks through March 27. Many other local school districts had also announced closures through late March and early April.

The district had extended its closure through April 3, following Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order issued last week that temporarily closed all Texas schools through that date.Other districts, such as Dallas ISD and Richardson ISD, have closed their school buildings indefinitely due to COVID-19.The last day of the semester for Fort Worth ISD is May 28.
